HELP!! VERY sick yorkie after shot at vet!!

Question:
If anybody has had this happen, PLEASE let me know what I can do!!
I took Deuce in today for his booster...(that's what I thought). He screamed when my vet gave him the shot and pulled away before the vet was through..so he had to do it again. He screamed worse...then I put him in his crate to take him home and he has been SO SICK ever since!! He won't eat, play or anything. He screams if you touch him. I called the vet back and told him what was going on. They told me to rush him back there. I did. The vet looked at him and said "I think he's just sore from the shot" I told him this is NOT Deuce. He NEVER acts like this. He put him on the floor to see if he could walk, and he did..then just sat down. We took his temp, it was fine. My vet then gave him another shot (just in case he's having a reaction to the distemper/parvo shot. PLEASE if ANYBODY has any experience with this happening.....email me at bgeier123@hotmail.com or post here...I will stay online.
I feel SO GUILTY and have been crying over this...He just lays there and won't move...cries if I try to gently move him. I'm scared to death and love him SO MUCH..

Answer:
My female had a reaction to a shot she would cry and not let you hold her. I gave her 1/2 of a baby asprin. She was okay by the next day. I would just keep an eye on him and if hes not back to normal by tomorrow I would take him back to the vet.

Answer:
Oh I hate hearing this but he could be doing alot of things - 1. he COULD be upset - 2. he is probably sore and 3. he may be having a reaction to the shot and watch him very carefully - all yorkies seem to react differently to shots and while I never had any reactions with my girls - they did have sore spots - but they were much better the next day
Do you know what shots he had ? Next time - maybe have them space them out more .....we also were given a baby asprin - they sent me home with a Johnsons baby asprin and cut up - but ASK YOUR VET first if this is ok !

Answer:
I remember several years ago when I had a Chihuahua, the same thing happened with her. She wouldn't let you touch her. She was very depressed and sore from the shots. She began to get a lump on her back and she would scream if you came near it. It turned out that she had an allergic reation to the shots. It's a good thing you took him back. If he is having a reaction to the shots, it has already been taken care of. My little boy yorkie recently had his annual shots. He was slow and sick for 3 days after. Every dog is different. Also, they can sometimes get a little traumatized from the pain of it and from the idea of the vet and humans in general. Don't worry. Your little one will forget about it when he starts feeling better ;) I know how you feel...It's painful to watch them go through it. :(

Answer:
Same thing happened with my fathers Yorkie. He was sore, little and scared. I would suggest make sure you have some Nutri-Stat in case he 'pouts' and doesn't want to eat. Keep a close eye on him and give him lots of lovin'!

Answer:
I'm sorry your baby had a reaction to the shots, hopefully by tomorrow he will be feeling better. I can imagine how bad it must be just seeing him lay around and scream when you touch him...

Answer:
Cali had a bad reaction to the first set of shots given to her by my vet. After that they give her pain drops after each shot and she has been fine.

Answer:
Some vets use lepto and corona in the multi-serum vaccine. A few Yorkies will react to either of those. But, because we use the serum that has so many vaccines in it. we cannot tell what the problem is. If your vet gave the shot in the muscle, IM, and not sub-q your baby could be have a little extra pain. I agree with the others,, watch her, ask the vet about aspirin, maybe a warm or cool cloth and don't make a really big pity party about it. Yeah, right! How is that gonna happen? LOL
Seriously, check temp before bed and keep her in your sight. Bet she will be fine by the morning..Did the vet give steroids or Benadryl in the second shot??

Thank you all for the posts, it makes me feel better...like maybe he isn't going to die. It just kills me to watch him lay there so still and sick. I called my breeder, Pam Martin and she said she's never had one react like that and that he was too young in her opionion to have the parvo/distemper shot..supposed to get it in two more weeks. He's just 14 weeks today..plus he had his rabies shot a week ago and 2weeks before that a round of shots (on schedule) at Pam's. She told me to give him Nutri stat and then water..she stayed on the phone with me all the time I was crying my eyes out and she could hear him crying. After I hung up with her, I cooked him some hamburger (his favorite) and took it to him ..he ate THREE lids full!! I feel MUCh better now...he's still sleeping and probably will until tomorrow afternoon. Of course, he's right beside me or in my lap at all times. If he's not better by tomorrow afternoon, he's going back..and I have the vet's home number for tonight in case.
I can't believe how attached I've become to him in just ONE WEEK. He's my baby boy.

Answer:
2nd shot was an antihistimine (sp?) I think..he never did say, but the vet helper assumed...and that's what she said.
I do think he'll get better b/c he ate all that hamburger..from his bed beside me out of my hand (three lids full!) then right back to sleep after licking water from my fingers. He only weights 2 lbs. 4 oz.. and is so precious and dependent. I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to him.
At least he ate something...we'll see what morning brings. I don't have a thermometer here for puppies, but am getting one tomorrow!!!

Answer:
I hope he's all better by the morning. Give him an extra hug from me, too. :)

Answer:
Oh Brenda! I am still Praying for your little man! I will have trouble sleeping tonight just thinking about you two! Please post in the AM, I will be looking for an update!
God Bless, and keep him.

Answer:
I have heard that LEPTO shot makes many Yorkies ill. There is no real reason to givr it, so I never did. Also, after a oarvo shot Ralphie was sore and screamed in pain when I tried to pick him up..it took a day for the soreness to go away. I waited till he was a year old to give him rabies shot for the same reason.

Answer:
You should find out if the Lepto was in the shot. When Lucky got his 2nd set of shots it had Lepto in it & he screamed & reacted the way you described. So, after that I switched vets (didn't really like them much anyway) & made sure that he didn't get the last 2 sets w/ Lepto in it. Also, they say to wait till they are 6 months to get the Rabies shot. (a little late now since he already got it) But I hope he's feeling better & please keep us updated!
